Chicago Neighborhoods With The Best Schools

Some people choose where to live in Chicago based on the local schools, and that’s certainly true when it comes to some specific neighborhoods. The city has several high-performing local schools. Here’s where to look if you’re trying to find a Chicago neighborhood with the best schools for your child.

Lincoln Park

The highly desirable Lincoln Park is known for its namesake park and its top restaurants, but there’s something else that drives parents to this part of Chicago. LaSalle Language Academy is in the neighborhood. The school has a unique travel abroad program for students in 7th or 8th grade. This level 1+ magnet school boasts that most of its graduates go on to attend their top choice high school.

Latin School of Chicago has been open for more than 130 years. The school selects applicants from junior kindergarten through the 12th grade. Francis W Parker School, meanwhile, accepts kids ranging from age four to 18. The six-acre campus offers a low student-teacher ratio.

Lakeview

Found on the north side of Chicago, the Lakeview neighborhood is home to Wrigley Field and the Lakefront Trail. It’s also home to some top schools, including Blaine Elementary School. This fine arts magnet cluster school takes kids from pre-school through the eighth grade.

Another top school in the neighborhood is Hawthorne Scholastic Academy. This high-ranking, literacy magnet school boasts high reading and math scores. St Alphonsus Academy is a recent, National Blue Ribbon, award-winning school. The private, Catholic school accepts around 500 students from pre-K through the eighth grade.

River North

The energetic River North neighborhood is packed with art galleries and nightlife, but it also has some great schools. Frances Xavier Warde Catholic School actually has two campuses, with around 900 combined students enrolled.

The Gardner School of Chicago River North campus describes its role as helping to stimulate a student’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. The school uses educational games, toys, puzzles and more for its curriculum-based lesson plans.

Roscoe Village

Home to independent shops, cafes, and taverns, charming Roscoe Village also has some great schools in the Chicago area. Lane Tech College Prep High School is a former, Blue Ribbon award-winning school in the neighborhood. With more than 4,000 students, it is also the city’s largest high school.

Augustus H Burley Elementary can also be found in Roscoe Village. This public elementary school describes itself as the city’s first literature, writing, and technology magnet cluster school.
