Evanston - Lighthouse Beach
Evanston sits on the North Shore, about 12 miles north of Downtown Chicago. As one of five beaches in Evanston, Lighthouse Beach is a great place to go swimming, set up a picnic, and more. Another bonus is that you’ll find a nearby playground and free parking near the beach.

Wilmette - Gillson Beach
Affluent Wilmette sits just to the north of Evanston with its own harbor and harbor club. Gillson Beach is great for swimming during the summer months, plus you’ll also find a dog beach, picnic areas, sailboat rentals and tennis courts at the park.

Winnetka - Cherry Street Beach; Maple Street Park/Beach; Elder Land Park & Beach
Another affluent northern suburb with beaches is Winnetka. The village has several great beaches, including Cherry Street Beach, which has been a teen favorite for generations. An almost hidden staircase leads down to the beach.
Another option in Winnetka is Maple Street Park and Beach, which has lifeguards and restrooms. The beach is good for swimming during the summer months. Although Maple Street Beach does offer daily admission, you’ll need a season pass to access the beach on weekends and other specific days.
Elder Land Park and Beach is a neighborhood park with room for swimming, pier fishing, picnic tables and bike racks. There’s also a non-motorized boat launch in the park.

Glencoe - Glencoe Beach
The North Shore village of Glencoe has lifeguards at Glencoe Beach during the summer season. The beach also has restrooms and lockers, plus you can rent chairs, umbrellas, sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboards at the Beach House.

Highland Park - Rosewood Park/Beach; Millard Park/Beach

The North Shore suburb of Highland Park is home to some great beaches of its own. Rosewood Park and Beach has a guarded swimming beach, a boardwalk, and restrooms. You’ll need a swimming pass to visit the beach and a parking decal to use one of the lots.
You can’t swim at Millard Park and Beach, but you can visit the park’s rock garden. The park includes 1000 feet of shoreline and bluff.
