In recent weeks and months, Related Midwest buildings like 500 N. Lake Shore Drive and 111 W. Wacker have gotten plenty of notoriety as being two of downtown Chicago’s hottest luxury rental buildings to come to market. But now, this mega-developer has set its sights on a new Streeterville project, just steps from the recently completed 500 N. Lake Shore Drive.
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune back in mid-July, Chicago’s new Related Midwest development is being designed by Robert A.M. Stern—a starchitect most known for his impressive portfolio in New York—and will stand 67 stories high, while housing another 500 residential units.
Prior to Related Midwest purchasing the land for the new tower last August, a new 232-unit condo tower was set to occupy the space by developer Dan McLean, until the site was lost in a foreclosure suite. The new plan from Related however, is to feature a mixture of 400 luxury rentals along with 100 new high-end condo units—a trend that would continue the luxury rental dominance new development in Chicago has seen over the past two-three years.
Along with the 500 residential units, the development would also include a 70,000 square foot park and an underground parking garage that would hold 900 individual spaces. For now, the new Related Midwest Tower coming to 451 E. Grand in Streeterville is still unnamed.
