More About The Aqua Condo Building
Although a somewhat newer building, Aqua has a pretty colorful history that includes wining multiple awards for its outstanding design. Back in 2009, Aqua Chicago was named the Emporis Skycraper of the Year, while in 2010, it was also mentioned for the Biannual International Highrise Award as well. As mentioned above, Aqua stands 84 stories high and aling with housing 263 condominium residences, there’s also 476 rental units, as well as 215 hotel rooms on floors 1 through 18. In all, Aqua also contains 55,000 square feet of office and retail space, giving it plenty of uses aside from just somewhere to call home. Aqua was in fact the first downtown Chicago building to include both condos and hotel rooms, which seems to be rather commonplace these days, especially for high-end luxury buildings.
Aqua was designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects. Construction for the building started back in 2007 and it wasn’t officially completed until 2009. Along with its unmistakable design, sustainability was also a critical component during development and the building features a rainwater collection system, energy efficient lighting, and even a green roof on top of the tower base.
