A new conversion project in Chicago is turning a more than century-old church into new condos. The St Boniface Condos sit in Chicago’s Noble Square neighborhood, overlooking nearby Eckhart Park.
About St. Boniface Cathedral Condos
Crews are currently busy converting the old church building into a collection of 17 or so new condos. Originally constructed around the turn-of-the-century, the old church was built in a Romanesque design, and had room for hundreds of parishioners. The church closed in the early 1990s, and the property stood vacant for decades.
In summer of 2021, crews began demolishing the interior of the church, but the actual façade and structure of the building will be saved to create the new condos. The individual units are said to offer either three- or four-bedrooms.
Amenities at St. Boniface Chicago Condos
Plans call for the units of St Boniface to come with some private outdoor space. There are also suggestions the property will include some parking.
Perhaps the biggest amenity of all is the location. Because it overlooks Eckhart Park, residents of St Boniface will enjoy easy access to the nearby park’s playground, community garden, athletic fields, gyms and a fitness center, plus swimming and a boxing center.
St. Boniface Catheral Interior Finishes
Buyers of units at St Boniface can expect to find things like designer appliances, plenty of cabinetry, wood floors and quartz countertops. The units will also be full of plenty of character, with expected inclusions like exposed brick. Because this is an adaptive reuse of an existing church structure, the St Boniface condos will benefit from a number of modern finishes, but also the historic charm of the building itself.
Plans call for some of the church’s old limestone entrances and rose windows to be left intact as part of the conversion. There are also plans for some of the tower tops to eventually be developed into terraces and actual living space as part of the new design of the building’s interior.
